bjcheung77 - UMPI BAS Progress Thread
Posted by: bjcheung77 - 06-28-2024, 11:20 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (37)

I start July 1... Creating an accountability and progress thread for my UMPI BAS with triple minor, hoping to complete these in one single session.  I only have 10 classes to complete and most if not all of them are already in the "UMPI Master Review Thread".  It's best for me to illustrate it as follows, it'll be easier to 'see' the whole picture with colors indicating what I have and what is required.  See below for details... Red are the ones I have, ** All go towards the MAOL, # Adds up to 10 total

Management Minor Requirements:
#Take these two at UMPI instead of Study.com to round out the 10 required classes!
Study.com Business 209: Mentoring & Leadership Development in the Workplace - BUS 260: Leadership
Study.com Business 306: Strategic Human Resources Management - BUS 321: Human Resource Management

MIS Minor Requirements:
Sophia.org Project Management - BUS 141 Introduction to Project Management w/Microsoft Projects
UMPI BUS 200 Intermediate Business Computing
Study.com BUS 303 Management Information Systems - BUS 244 Management Information Systems
Google Data Analytics Certificate - BUS 245: Programming for Managers
UMPI BUS 345: Database Management Systems
**UMPI BUS 440 Business Analytics

PM Minor Requirements:
Study.com BUS 304 - Leading Organizational Change - BUS 240 Change Management
UMPI BUS 343 Project Risk & Cost Management
Google Project Management Certificate - BUS 400: Project Management Applications
UMPI BUS 401: Advanced Project Management Applications II
Study.com BUS 314 Advanced Operations Management - BUS 415 Operations Management
**UMPI BUS 469 Strategic Professional Communication

Remaining Electives Requirements:
**UMPI BUS 335 Organizational Behavior
**UMPI BUS 353 Legal & Ethical Issues in Business
**Classes exempt/transferable into MAOL later

Note: Previously, I have transferred a few of these classes from Sophia.org, StraighterLine, Study.com, etc, but, for residency purposes, I am re-taking these and for retaining previous knowledge, plus use 3 of the 4 classes that can go towards the MAOL as they can't be transferred into the MAOL (must be taken at UMPI for transfer).

PS: Happy Studies Everyone!  I'll be on the board lurking from July 1 until the end of Summer Session 2, you can PM me if needed.

I want to take an Online Bachelor's Degree in the USA but I'm a Filipino
Posted by: notmiu - 06-28-2024, 08:54 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (6)

Hellooo ! I apologize if I'm posting this on the wrong category.. I'm a Filipina (20 years old) with a philippine science high school diploma and some college credits from my Bachelor of Science in Psychology in DLSU, I only did 2 terms out of 3 (trimester system) and is currently on a LOA. While my first year of college wasn't my strongest academically, my high school diploma is considered prestigious in the Philippines.
I'm interested in pursuing an online degree in schools from the US, but I'm unsure how my academic background will translate. Additionally, many scholarships seem limited to US citizens.
Here's my situation:

  • I'm currently working in the Philippines and have no plans to immigrate immediately. Finishing my degree here seems financially prudent for now.

  • I'd consider using a relative's US address for applications, but only for educational purposes.
My questions:

  • Has anyone faced a similar situation as an international student?

  • Are there universities in the US known for being more open to international students?

  • What are the realistic odds of securing scholarships as a non-citizen?
Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance :3

  Suggestions for BUS 200 Please
Posted by: SophiaPrincess - 06-28-2024, 07:47 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (7)

I'll be starting BUS 200 on Monday. I've been advised I should pick a topic for my assignments that is straightforward to write on, prepare spreadsheets on, and presentations about. Since I've never had a 'real job' I have no business experience to draw upon. I would appreciate suggestions from anyone who has taken this course. Thank you.

The debate was pretty much a disaster.  Laying the groundwork for an ouster at the convention.  The Democrats would have never presented Biden to the public unless it was the only way to get rid of him.

  Credit evaluation from UMPI
Posted by: lynnii2 - 06-27-2024, 07:37 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (5)

Hello all,

I wanted help on transcripts and classes. I have attached a google drive with all my transcripts, credit evaluation from UPMI.

I have 188 credit in total from Sophia, Google/Coursea, ASU Universal - CIS 194 Online, Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service.

I applied and received my BOG Degree AAS in Information Systems from Pierpont Community & Technical College This June 2024. I was looking at UMPI for Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration – Project Management & Information Systems.

I was confused by the credit evaluation i received and why i had so may class? Looks like UMPI list 2 different degree paths.

The plan is to go into GovTech once i get enough IT experience under my belt. I'm changing career paths is the reason for the getting a degree to add to my other employment experience. I appreciate everyone taking the time to review my documents.

It's Time for My Son to Enroll at TESU. Is He on the Right Track?
Posted by: Rachel84in - 06-27-2024, 02:07 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (8)

First, I'm not very creative with usernames and I plead guilty for shamelessly borrowing a good formula that might help differentiate those of us with the same name.  Smile

I've been a long-time lurker and have been working with my son to put together a degree plan for him at TESU. He's studied for most of his CLEP exams using Instacert, which has been great for him. He'd like to get a BA in Liberal Arts as well as an AS in Business Administration. He's interested in banking and would like to pursue a part-time job at a bank and I think it would be good to put on his resume that he's enrolled at TESU.

Now that it's time to start thinking about enrolling, there are some things that are a little fuzzy to me.

  • It's recommended to sign up for the medical transcription TECEP (but not bother taking it) after enrolling. What exactly does this do or avoid?
  • It's my understanding the residency waiver does not need to be paid until time to graduate. Am I correct? (I don't see my son going the 15-credit route)
  • What would you recommend as far as finishing the degrees? I'm thinking he would just finish them both at the same time unless I'm missing something.

I'm attaching an outline of completed and anticipated course work that I think will fulfill the requirements and that my son is interested in taking.  I would appreciate a critique. Below are a couple of questions that have come to mind:
  • The DSST Public Speaking course is equivalent to TESU COM 3090. As a Liberal Arts course, would this fulfill one of the 15 cr. UL requirements for the Liberal Studies major? (understanding that another course would need to be taken to complete the total number of credits required in the area of study).
  • I'm a little unsure about using Introduction to Business, Ethics and Entrepreneurship from TEL to satisfy the Ethical Leadership requirement. McMurray University accepts it as "Ethics and Entrepreneurship in the Modern World." Any opinions on how TESU might accept it?
Thank you for taking time to look this plan. I know I wouldn't have been able to do it without the wealth of information on this forum. I'm looking forward to your feedback.

  Xamk enforces new change
Posted by: Avidreader - 06-27-2024, 01:57 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (17)

Sadly, it seems like Xamk has enacted a new rule and you forcibly need a Finnish social security number to sign up for new courses. There seems to be no way around this.
I was hoping they would continue offering their open university courses to foreigners if they paid the tuition, but it seems like they did this instead.
Well, at least I managed to sign up for a few courses right before this change happened.

A new program in Colorado recognizes students who didn’t complete their bachelor’s de
Posted by: davewill - 06-27-2024, 12:41 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

It makes so much sense to see that people get some recognition for the effort they've put in. It can both help their current job prospects, and provide the encouragement needed to consider picking up the bachelor's degree effort again.

https://www.cpr.org/2024/06/25/msu-denve...e-degrees/

Quote:The graduation ceremony at Metropolitan State University of Denver was the first of its kind to award associate degrees to former students who’ve completed at least 70 credits towards their bachelor’s degree but then stopped school. A minimum of 70 credits is about two years of college.

The Colorado Re-Engaged (CORE) initiative became law in 2021, and for the first time, it recognized that more than 25,000 Coloradans who invested time and money but for a variety of reasons had to stop their education, could be eligible for a degree to reflect the work they’d done.

“What this bill was really looking to do was to one, give you a mile marker to say you did do something and this was significant and two, hopefully, encourage you to re-engage with this opportunity for higher education,” said Shaun Schafer, MSU Denver’s associate vice president of curriculum, academic effectiveness and policy development.

WGU Raising Tuition to $4,125 in Sept 2024
Posted by: nykorn - 06-27-2024, 12:00 PM - Forum: WGU - Western Governors University Discussion - Replies (6)

Hey, didn't see this mentioned on the forums. I'm a current student and got an Email that WGU is raising its tuition from $3,975 to $4,125 per term (an increase of $150), not including the $200 materials fee. The increase will start September 1st 2024 and be valid for anyone starting a new term on or after September, as well as people starting before September but paying monthly. For reference, I'm in the Master's in Elementary Education.
