Returning Accounting Student - Quickest Way
Posted by: MauriceLevy - 05-09-2024, 01:18 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (10)

Hi all.

My primary question is what is the easiest and quickest possible way to graduate with an accounting degree? I am not afraid of having to put my nose to the grindstone as I completed all of my 42 credits in one WGU term before. Life happened, and I withdrew. Life is better now, but I really hope I can make progress again at the same speed. I also hope that progress can be much much easier if not effortless.

My secondary questions:
1.What is ACE?
2. What exactly are the benefits of UMPI? No proctored tests? Cheaper?

Here is a list of which credits I already possess.

19 credits transferred from my first college:

Two humanities (a history and music course)
English 1
Microeconomics
Spreadsheeting
College Algebra

42 credits earned from WGU:

Critical Thinking
Intro to HR mngmt.
Principles of mngmt.
Organizational Behavior
Business Ethics
Quan. Analysis
Applied Probability and Stats
Fundamentals for Success in Business
Innovative and Strategic Thinking
Emotional and Cultural Intelligence
Business Enviroment Applications 1
IT Mngmt. Essentials
Financial Accounting
Principles of Financial and Managerial Accounting

Thank you for reading this far! Big Grin

Shocked More psychology programs? License eligible? Plus MSCS.
Posted by: sanantone - 05-09-2024, 11:40 AM - Forum: WGU - Western Governors University Discussion - Replies (8)

WGU is hiring behavior analyst and addictions counselor instructors/course developers for their BS in psych. My guess is that they're adding certification/license-eligible concentrations. Even more exciting is that they're hiring course developers/instructors for an MS in psychology with a focus on clinical mental health counseling.

The rumored MS in computer science might be coming soon. They're also hiring for this program.

  TAMUC Price going UP
Posted by: ElBert - 05-09-2024, 10:05 AM - Forum: General "Big 3", B&M colleges, and other colleges - Replies (7)

Hi Guys, Just FYI if it hasn't been said here before TAMUC price will go from $750 per term to $1000, the last term to be grandfathered into $750 is Summer II

So if you start after Summer II your price will be $1000, which still isn't all that bad, For prespective one TAMUC session ( 7 weeks ) is the cost of 3 credits at some universities.

But if you want to save the 250 I suggest you apply now, say you need 3 sessions that's 750 you would save, just FYI

Newbie looking for efficient path to bachelors degree
Posted by: Santi - 05-09-2024, 02:29 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (2)

Hi, I have been searching for some help in determining the most efficient path to completing my Bachelors degree. The degree field does not matter as much as just completing it in the most efficient way possible. Your guidance is greatly appreciated. I have sent in my Transcript to WGU and was considering them but they only accepted 33 credits. I was wondering if there is a school that would take more of my credits? I recently heard about UMPI and was wondering if they would be a better option.

Location: Texas, United States
Age: 50
What kind of degree do you want?: Any degree to be able to fill the bachelors degree requirement at my place of work.
Budget: I'd like to go the most efficient route possible. (cheap but fast will work too if not too expensive as I will have to pay up front before getting reimbursed)
Commitments: I have a couple toddlers and work full time and can work on my studies part time and in the evenings/weekends.
Dedicated time to study: I estimate I can study at least 3 hours on weeknights and up to 6 hours on Weekends
Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible is what I ideally want to do.  I would like to finish within 12 to 18 months
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: I can get Tuition reimbursement of up to 5000 a year that comes with a 2 year commitment to remain with my employer. My employer no longer has a list of schools (they used to) so I will have to reach out to them once I have picked a school as the school will have to be on their approved list.

I would like to think I am a pretty good test taker but have not tested myself recently. I hear competency based education is the way to go from coworkers that have moved on once they have obtained their degrees from WGU. I have worked in IT for over 10 years now. The last major tests I took and passed were the ITIL Foundations exam back in 2012 and some Spanish CLEP exams in 2015.

  TECEP Financial Accounting
Posted by: Carnation - 05-09-2024, 01:40 AM - Forum: CLEP, DSST, and TECEP Exam Discussion. Also Modern States and InstantCert. - Replies (2)

Has anyone taken the Financial Accounting TECEP?
I couldn't find any information through search of this website.

The recommended book covers Financial and Managerial Accounting.
Anyone know how much of the book is covered on the test?
Anyone know how difficult the test is?

My son aced the Intro to Political Science TECEP first try, but couldn't manage a pass on Microeconomics with 2 tries (despite reading the 2 recommended books and reviewing multiple courses on Study.com!)
Seems there's a wide range of difficulty in regards to TECEPs.

Any insight would be appreciated.

  Best Options For Fast Credits
Posted by: harrypotter - 05-08-2024, 04:30 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (11)

Hey everyone. I’m looking for some help in finding my best options for fast credits to obtain before mid-July. I was just hired on as an elective teacher at a high school & really want to bump my salary up to the next pay level for my first semester by bringing in credits. I start 7/30 so I would need to complete these before early/mid-July. I need to complete 18 credits to move up to the next pay level. I’m looking for "enroll any-time" type of schools/courses since I can’t wait until the next term to start.

Credits need to be in the field of education or business-related (my position is in a business-related subject). Need to be RA or NA. Levels 100 and up are accepted. I prefer courses that are mostly/ only exams. Cheap is king.

Any help is really appreciated. Thanks!

***I plan on taking BUS 206 Management Information Systems and possibly BUS 203 Principles of Marketing and BUS 402 Project Management if it would help all on Saylor.

I currently have 61 credits for an AAS BOG from Pierpont. I waiting for it to be conferred in August then I will start UMPI. I am hoping to get a BAS, with a minor in MIS and maybe business if possible. Later on, go for the MAOL.

I have done research and know that I have enough credits for Gen Ed and Technical but none for the residency requirement.
I mainly need advice on which classes to take from UMPI to get the MIS minor and possibly business. I am hoping to stick with 7 + the 3 needed or MAOL. The classes with less writing would be preferred.

If anyone is interested I made a spreadsheet with a degree plan from someone else for a BAS that includes possible UL classes to choos from with reviews:
