  UMPI BLS Minor Business
Posted by: theea - 03-20-2024, 03:41 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (5)

Hello, everyone; I'm new here and still navigating my UMPI courses. I've completed BUS 260 and BUS 240, both of which required writing three milestone papers and quizzes along the way, with the finals being papers. Now, I'm on the lookout for similar short classes to complete. I am paying out of pocket and would like to be done with this degree honestly by the end of the semester. All I need is 7 more courses.  Wink  Can anyone provide insight into the length and format of the courses I need to take?: BUS 321, BUS 415, EDU 350, BUS 307, BUS 341, BUS 335, PSY 355, and BUS 469? Any tips on finding classes with a similar structure to BUS 260 and BUS 240 would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Since I'm earning my BLS with a major in management, I'm willing to switch it out for any other business class if needed, but it has to be upper division... i think And for those with questions I'm transferring in with the AA already completed and I've already completed several Sophia courses

Metropolia for quick bachelor's degree to get in a master's program
Posted by: klicer - 03-20-2024, 02:15 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (5)

Your Location: Estonian living in Finland
Your Age: 19
What kind of degree do you want?: Fast bachelor's degree in IT/CS with the goal of getting in Helsinki/Aalto university MSc Computer Science.

I have the advantage of living in Finland, so Metropolia UAS seems like a no-brainer. My goal is to fly through UAS, and hopefully get into one of our top school's master's programs.

Getting into a master's program after that might be a piece of cake, they have a lot of room, because many people drop out of our universities after getting their bachelor's?

I'm looking at this Metropolia UAS program specifically:
Degree Programme of Information Technology - online studies 180 ECTS (price 579 euros)

I have years of coding in my background, and run a small software business, so I don't expect any difficulty with the actual studying part. There is a job experience/internship requirement, which I might be able to do through my own company.

Does anyone have experiences with Metropolia UAS, how did it go?

Does this sound realistic with some hard work and dedication?

EDIT: ADDENDUM

Budget: I can shill out 5k€ if necessary for papers, but I prefer to go the cheapest route. Metropolia should cost 579€ and nothing more?
Commitments: I am my own boss, and have no other commitments outside of that. Running my business doesn't necessarily have to take a lot of time commitment.
Dedicated time to study: I can do 40+ hour weeks, if that's what it takes. I'm already starting off from a strong knowledge level, but I also love learning new things and filling all my gaps. My main goal is getting bachelor's papers ASAP. Afterwards I'd like to try my luck at applying to highly regarded master's CS programs, such as University of Helsinki.
Timeline: I would like to finish the bachelor degree in 1-1.5 years
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: I am an EU citizen, otherwise paying out of pocket.

  UMPI plan

I would like to attend UMPI or WGU but I am open to anywhere that is accredited. I eventually want to do my masters (Most likely at WGU), but want the easiest route to a bachelors first to open up opportunities at work. I would like an evaluation and the easiest path going forward to get my degree and if someone could please tell me what I am missing to maximize transfers the easiest way possible.

Thank you,

The 100 Most Popular Accredited Online Colleges for 2024

The 100 Most Popular Accredited Online Colleges for 2024

https://www.onlineu.com/online-schools/most-popular

Some notes:

1. Usually, we don't recommend for-profit colleges because of the stigma associated with them, and they aren't any cheaper, faster, or better than other options. However, we have had some people here on DF, attend for-profit colleges such as Walden University and Strayer University.

2. There are some diamonds in the rough on this list, such as the University of the Cumberlands which has $220 per credit tuition and allows 75% transfer credit including Sophia.

3. Pretty much any college can be hacked if it allows alternative credits. It's a matter of time and money whether it's worth it compared to other options.

  Seeking Guidance on beginning degree
Posted by: BeginAgain_1980 - 03-19-2024, 04:13 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (9)

Hello,
I'm excited to share that I'm finally ready to pursue my degree now that my oldest child has moved out and is living independently. Initially, I began taking classes in early childhood development, but I had to leave school to work full-time.

After spending some time browsing this board, I've been truly inspired by seeing so many others complete their degrees.
Although I don't have many credits to my name, I've listed the few I have below. I am currently working my way through Sophia.org.

Southeastern University
ENGL 002 Credit awarded 0.00
HIST 101 Credit awarded 3.00
CHDE 101 Credit awarded 3.00
CHDE104 Credit awarded 3.00
ART 101 Credit awarded 0.00

Sophia.org
Intro to Business (PHIL Elective)
Ancient Greek Philosopher (BMGT110)

Pursuing a degree is something I see as fulfilling for myself, especially since I paused my education journey when I got married and started my own family. Thank you for considering my situation.

New Purdue (Main) online masters in AI
Posted by: smartdegree - 03-19-2024, 03:46 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (7)

Purdue (West Lafayette, the main campus) just launched a masters in AI:

https://www.purdue.edu/online/ms-in-arti...elligence/

Cost $28K - not bad for a Purdue degree

Very interesting program.  There's 2 tracks - one in AI Machine Learning and the other in AI Management.  So you can be as technical or less technical as you like.

Debate/speech competition transfer credits? Fave advisors?
Posted by: PLEX - 03-19-2024, 01:35 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (4)

If anyone else had their RA credits for competitive debate or speech courses accepted by TESU, I'd love to know details of the original course code and description, as well as the TESU course code and description they mapped it to. Just looking at my newly-evaluated transfer credits and I'm very sad to see four semesters of "SP-26, Forensics" at RA college - 8 credits of A grades - was evaluated as "CDR-1999" with zero credits.

I earned these a LONG time ago (and wasted tons of time winning awards when I should have been earning a degree). So, I wonder if the course ID and/or description as merely, "Forensics" (not LEO-related) are just no longer in whatever databases they use. I also see TESU does not have their own competitive debate/speech offering. However, they did accept a number of my other ancient classes, as well as oddball classes that are not quite like anything they have on offer.

I applied mainly just to get the two free TECEPs they are currently offering newly-accepted student, and to see their credit evaluation so I can begin choosing and planning a degree. I have more alternative-source credits I know I need to complete before really digging in at TESU.

So, I wasn't really planning on talking to an Academic Advisor just yet. However, I'm guessing that's the best way to press them on the non-accepted credits..? If that's the best next step, can anyone recommend their favorite from this list?

best way to get a CS degree for people with experience?
Posted by: bwokbwok - 03-18-2024, 10:00 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (8)

Your Location: Washington, United States
Your Age: 28
What kind of degree do you want?: Computer Science
Current Regional Accredited Credits: I have completed a general study associate degree from a community college near Seattle. Also went to a different community college and finished a few chemistry and biology classes.

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits:
Sophia Classes I have completed:
Calculus I
Introduction to Information Technology
Introduction to Java Programming
Introduction to Networking
Introduction to Relational Databases
Introduction to Web Development
Principles of Management

Any certifications or military experience? No

Budget: Not tight on budget but want to spend as little as possible, within 8k is ideal, but I care about saving time more than cost.

Commitments: working full time as a web developer, no pet no kid

Dedicated time to study: I can spend about 2-3 hours on weekday and 5-8 hours on weekend.

Timeline: As fast as possible.  I would like to finish within 1-1.5 years (12-18 months)

Tuition assistance/reimbursement: I don't believe I am eligible. Female with 100k annual salary, would love to apply for scholarship if there's any good recommendation.

Hello all, I have been working as a web dev for the past 2 years. I don't have a bachelor degree and feel like this is making it harder to get a new job especially for all the recent changes in the IT field.

I was planning to get a degree via WGU and transfer credit from Sophia and study.com. After looking through a lot of information online, I doubt that I can finish WGU in one term (6 month) even if I transferred in everything from Sophia and study.com.

Then I found out about TESU which I think maybe a better option for me since I can transfer in even more classes from outside sources and really just pay for one term in TESU.

At this point, I want to complete the degree asap instead of worrying about the quality of my education since I am already working in IT. I heard that TESU is very flexible so I am hoping I can get about 60-70 credits transferred from my associated degree. 21 credits from Sophia (If I am right about each course is 3 credits). And I am planning to take 8 classes or more via study.com (about 24 credits). Then I will finish the remaining classes with TESU.

Is this a correct estimation?
Is there any better options for me?
Do WGU graduates have a significant advantage in getting into Master degree in the future comparing to TESU?
When should I start applying for TESU if I think it will take me 4 months to finish all classes vis study.com? (I know that I will be transferring credits from 4 different sources, 2 community colleges, Sophia and study.com)

Just want to say thank you all for all the good information, I tried to read as much as possible but feeling a little dizzy at this point haha. But this guide is amazing!

  Lifestyle Prescriptions University
Posted by: ADC2305 - 03-18-2024, 09:46 PM - Forum: General "Big 3", B&M colleges, and other colleges - Replies (4)

I've lurked in education forums for a few years and read as much as possible about accreditation, etc. Due to the cost, I signed up with Lifestyle Prescriptions University for their Ph.D. program and utilized my healthcare qualifications. I got a scholarship, which only cost me about 10k USD to do the course.

The course is in lifestyle medicine and health coaching, which I always wanted to do, but I have struggled in England to find a university that would support my research.

The accreditation is the bad part, but the European International University that accredits the course got regional accreditation for its DBA in the USA. I'm hopeful I can also get this with Validential when my course is complete.

I started the course a few months ago, and the content is decent so far, but I will update you as time passes.
