  Communications
Posted by: SilentWarrior - 03-17-2024, 01:30 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

How does Villanova, SLU, Xavier (Cincy) compare against Georgetown in the communications and writing department? I’m looking at pursuing a career in communications/ Technical writing. I was admitted to all 4 of these schools for an online bachelors in General Studies but with a concentration in communications and writing. I’m online on the west coast so campus and location aren’t factors for me. Out of all these schools Georgetown has been the toughest with answering my questions. It’s also important that my program has some faith based theology in the curriculum from a Catholic/ Christian perspective. Georgetown’s program is the only one that doesn’t have a religion requirement and also seems to be a little too progressive for my taste. If anyone is familiar with the communications and writing at these schools please chime in. Thanks!

Transfer and see what transfers, BEFORE starting the degree?
Posted by: ecdw94 - 03-17-2024, 08:40 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (8)

Is it possible to transfer courses and see how many are accepted for the MAOL program, BEFORE you enroll and start your term or even pay the term fees?

I wouldn't want to find out later that I could not get all 90 credits transferred and I have to take more of the classes at UMPI. As I have heard, you can not really transfer more classes in at a later point during the started term.

DBA from EIU Paris - 2yrs total €5000 WES recognised as Doctorate?
Posted by: FrHaseKopf - 03-17-2024, 07:12 AM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - Replies (5)

Has anyone researched on this?

it's called EIU Paris, they offer DBA by thesis for 2 yrs, total cost €5000, and posted a sample of recognised Canadian WES evaluation for DBA.

WES SAMPLE:

Just did a quick search, as I understand that this institute is recognised as educational institute but not degree granting. No idea if this WES evaluation is legit.

  UK vs US, Education Compared
Posted by: bjcheung77 - 03-17-2024, 12:14 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

Here's an article where this individual compares UK vs US education in their perspective... With higher education, it may be different as there are so many more higher ranked US institutions as there are UK ones, but we're basically talking about Valedictorian vs Salutatorian... Their ranking is different than mine, I believe US is first and UK is second, they think otherwise...

Colleges bring back ACT/SAT after finding test-optional policies hurt minorities

US colleges bring back standardized testing after finding test-optional policies hurt minority students

https://www.foxnews.com/media/us-college...y-students

Quote from the article saying it's racist to say blacks can't do well on ACT/SAT:

He also blamed the elimination of standardized testing on a narrative circulating in academia that some minority students do not do as well as White and Asian students because of poor schooling or cultural bias in the test.

"Frankly, I found this narrative racist and offensive on its face," Schein said. "That is because it could be interpreted as ‘certain minorities were too stupid to do well on these demanding standardized tests.’ I have always rejected this narrative. Further, schools should still have the data but can make decisions based on the many factors considered in admissions, not just the SAT."

Thanks

South College Developing CBE Master's in Criminal Justice
Posted by: Jonathan Whatley - 03-16-2024, 09:38 AM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (10)

South College is hiring adjunct faculty to launch a CBE master's in criminal justice. [ZipRecruiter, LinkedIn.] The college currently has a non-CBE MS in Criminal Justice (and a nested graduate certificate) in its catalog but admission of new students is paused. This paused non-CBE master's has optional concentrations in Computer Forensic Investigation, Fraud Examination, or Public Administration, or a no-concentration option.

South College would compete with Walden University as providers of CBE master's in criminal justice. UMPI, TAMUC, PUG, and Walden offer CBE bachelor's in criminal justice.

  Electronics Engineering degree plan advice
Posted by: trailbounder - 03-16-2024, 03:26 AM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (5)

Hello everyone, been following this forum for some time and developed my plan based on the guides and posts. Posting this plan to see if anyone has any recommendations or advice. Due to time constraints of being active-duty military, I can only take 2 classes at a time No, I do not wish to go for Military Technology Leadership or any similarly pointless (unmarketable) AAS degrees.

My current plan is to simultaneously pick up the AS CIT, and AS EET and graduate the two associates simultaneously while on my way to the BS ESET through TESU. Im considering the BA Liberal Studies/Computer Science degree as a backup plan as that requires the fewest credits to complete. I'm a computer nerd and I have electronics experience through the military.  I’m working on this degree path to improve my promotion/career prospects within my field of electronics/radio/computers both in the military and civilian side. I’m primarily interested in the TESU program due to the transfer credits accepted and ABET/ETAC accreditation.

I currently have the following credit distribution with a 3.85GPA:
Associates of Science, Computer & Information Technology, 34/60cr complete
Associates of Science Electronics Engineering Technology, 31/60cr complete
Bachelors of Science Electronics Systems Engineering Technology, 54/120cr complete.

These are the classes I have left to complete and my plan for completion:

Commitments: 2kids, spouse, Active-Duty Army
Dedicated time to study: Limited, 1-3hrs during weekdays, 5-15hrs weekends. Impacted significantly my military training, operations, or deployment, can only take 2 classes at a time.
Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal. I would like to finish my associates within 1.5 years, and bachelors within 2.5years
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: Military Tuition Assistance, $4000/16cr per fiscal year
