Help needed! Leave my EU plan or not?
Posted by: H31d1 - 04-16-2025, 08:06 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (8)

Hello everyone,

I just learned about EU's change and that you have to do 15 credits with them now instead of 7! What am I to do now?

I have attached our original plan. Please have a look!

Summary:
My daughter has 74 credits already and is/was aiming for an online Bachelor of Science of Liberal Arts at EU. The plan is to transfer in as many credits as possible.

Goal: finish before summer 2026
Cost: as cost efficient as possible.
Location: the Netherlands

Can someone explain if it makes sense to still go with EU? What would be the cost? Will TESU be cheaper/faster?
Someone has a link to a degree plan for Tesu?

With these credits, would UMPI or UotP also be a cheap option?

Link where I can find the information are also welcome. I'm having a hard time finding the specific info on their websites!

Thank you so much, I'm really confused now!

  UMPI BA Psychology Degree Plan
Posted by: Swiss Cognac - 04-15-2025, 01:36 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (7)

I am a lurker who finally decided to register an official account. I have officially applied and have been accepted to UMPI for the YourPace BA in Psychology.
I transferred in about 166 credits from 2 different attempts at B&M schools. Unfortunately, I cannot get started right away at UMPI. I will have to defer until I can finish the GEC classes I need at Sophia and the 2 psychology courses at SDC.

I plan to start on Sophia next week. I'm not sure how long 6 classes at Sophia and 2 classes at SDC will take me. However; I anticipate starting Summer Session 2 at UMPI. This should give me enough time to knock those 8 classes out and not feel rushed. This will leave me with exactly 10 courses at UMPI.

Here is my degree plan....

SOPHIA:

1.) 2D        VICOMM      Visual Communications 101
2.) 3A/3B    MAT 101     Basic Statistics
3.) 3C         BIO104       Intro to Human Nutrition
4.) 4C         PHI 152      Introduction to Ethics
5.) 5B         HTY 161     US History I
6.) PSY 205                  Lifespan Development

SDC:
7.)  PSY 200        Social Psychology
8.)  PSY 235        Abnormal Psychology

UMPI:
9.)   PSY 311        Research Methods I
10.) PSY 446        Psychobiology
11.) PSY 341        Drugs And Behavior
12.) PSY 360        Animal Behavior
13.) PSY 370        Personality
14.) PSY 374        Voc Aspects of Disability
15.) PSY 375        Sex And Gender
16.) PSY 380        Principles of Counseling
17.) PSY 382        Substance Abuse Counseling
18.) PSY 448        Cognitive Psychology

I am planning 2 sessions because I hear psychology courses tend to be a bit longer than others. I'm in no rush. My personal goal is to be done by the end of 2025. I think it is a realistic goal.

What do you think? Any suggestions?

UoPeople vs UMPI - Cost, Degrees, Time, etc
Posted by: bjcheung77 - 04-15-2025, 11:14 AM - Forum: UoPeople - University of the People Discussion - Replies (9)

Update: UoPeople only allows one associates and bachelors in the same subject area but allow multiple Masters.

UoPeople and UMPI are my go to recommendations now after UoPeople gained RA recently
For both institutions, you can transfer in 90 credits (or more, but only 90 will go into degree)
UMPI, if you can finish in one session, it's going to cost $1700. Most can complete in two.
UoPeople have partnerships with Sophia, Study.com, StraighterLine, 60 credits free assessment!

UMPI costs: 90 credits from Sophia.org $299 (4months)
If you can finish 10 classes in 1 session, $1700
Total: $1999 USD - 1 UMPI session is 8 weeks
Add AALS as second program and forget it as all courses from Bachelors complete program

UoPeople costs: App fee: $60
90 credits from Sophia.org $299 (4months)
90 credit transfer: (60 are free) 10 classes at $17 = $170
10 classes at $140/assessment = $1400
Total: $1929 for an entire Associates & Bachelors degree

For those looking to get a second bachelors, you can do so with an extra UMPI session or 10 assessments at UoPeople...
Thus, it'll be an extra $1700 at UMPI and for UoPeople, $60 app, plus $170 for 10 class assessment (your major prerequisites)
finally, the $140/assessment for the final 10 classes at UoPeople.  Total for UoPeople is an extra $1630 for second bachelors!

Your Location: Turkey
Your Age: 25.
What kind of degree do you want?: Business Management or Computer Science.
Current Regional Accredited Credits: None.
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None.
Any certifications or military experience?: None.
Budget: 4k USD.
Commitments: I work full time but I can dedicate 30 hours a week for studies.
Dedicated time to study: 30 hours a week.
Timeline: Ideally as fast as possible, so under 1.5 year.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: None.

Hey there everyone, I have been reading the forum for the past couple of weeks and it's time I finally start pursing a degree. Smile
A small note about my background, I have been working as a software developer for well over 4 years now, but not having a degree made getting interviews for better positions harder - almost impossible - nowadays.
Realistically I know the best option would be to get a CS degree, but I believe with only 4k it would be impossible, so I reckoned the next best course of action is a Business Management degree.

Thanks for your time.
Oz.

  PMI Membership Discount for Students
Posted by: SpartacusPM - 04-14-2025, 06:40 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

I know this will be a very specific niche. But wanted to share something I just discovered.

If you ever considered getting a certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI), If you are a student, membership is only $32 per year, versus $164 per year. Then regular price each year if you renew. I am planning on getting my PMP this year too, so I just signed up to save money on the membership. I will get access to the PMBOK guide to study and other PDU classes. By being a member the certification will cost $425 instead of $675.

When I went to sign up it asked for my name and what school and did an instant verification and I just paid my $32, plus $10 for local chapter yearly fee.

Their certifications are geared towards: Project Managers, Program Managers, Risk Management Professionals, Business Analysts, etc.

Recently created this degree planning tool that maps out transfer pathways via sophia, study, saylor, and straighterline at WGU.
It pulls real-time information from WGU and also lists detailed transfer guideline notes for each course (the same notes that the transcript evaluators use).
