For those that follow politics, I have learned from an official with the Fred Thompson "campaign" that Thompson is almost certain to announce his candidacy on June 28th, at The Wayfarer Convention Center in Bedford, NH.

Help....US Hist or SS and Hist.?
Posted by: et4tango - 06-13-2007, 07:00 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

I am having a bad case of the jitters.......
I have been preparing for the SS and Hist exam. After going through the feedback on the forum I am having second thoughts.
Would it make more sense to take US Hist 1 and 2 first to get my feet wet.
I score high on the Clep Guide practice tests, the Peterson's test is higher in difficulty.
I was shooting for tomorrow and I need to know if this order makes more sense:
Am Hist 1
Am Hist 2
Am Gvmt
SS and History

Any feedback would be appreciated, I am having one of those "doubting days"
Thanks.

36 Clep credits
15 Fema to date.

  PSYCH GRE Credits for EC?
Posted by: WSC - 06-13-2007, 05:24 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

It'll be 3 weeks since I enrolled at EC. I saw a couple of threads that indicated they received their's within 2-3 weeks. I called EC and told them I know some people that received their's within 2-3 weeks but they said those were for students that were already enrolled but just posting new transcripts.

In any event, I know this is a long intro, but I'm wondering how many credits i will get for a 560 GRE Psych subject score? I saw someone post that they received 9 hours for a 590. I'm hoping I receive 6 hours. It was a more difficult test than I anticipated.

I know EC has the final word and I hope I get my evaluation soon, but they were adamant it'll be 6-8 weeks. That's another 3-5 weeks of waiting. I was hoping someone would know how many hours I'll get? If I receive 6 hours and I pass Humanities tomorrow I should have 121 hours and graduate. If I receive 3 hours then I'll have 118 (assuming I pass Humanities) and I'll need another clep.

Thanks!

2 GPA Boosters Remaining - Please Help Me Decide
Posted by: steelers - 06-13-2007, 11:59 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

I need 2 more exams (preferably graded or 6 credit pass/fail ones for the most GPA impact) before graduating. I have a very limited time to study and complete these. I just completed Supervision yesterday and it fit the criteria perfectly. I'm basically looking for two easy A grades through Excelsior. This is my available list of exams to choose from:

1) Analyzing & Interpreting Lit. - No IC cards/non-graded/6 credits. I know nothing about literatrure and poetry but I have good reading comprehension. Prefer reading about sports, health, human performance, etc.
2)Env.&Hum.Race/Save Planet
3)Ethics in America
4)Foundations of Education
5)Intro to Business - I have taken OB, HRM, Management and Supervision
6)Intro to World Religions
7)Intro to Computing - No IC cards for this particular one. I Scored a 63 on MIS 1.5 years ago, however I still consider myself pretty computer illiterate)
8)FEMA Credits - Just discovered this option. Does the whole TESC credit bank (one flat fee) and then transfer to Excelsior thing work or do you need to fork out $60 per credit through Fredricks? Couldn't find definitive answer.

GPA Boosters - Wild Experiences - Easiest Exam of Them All
Posted by: steelers - 06-12-2007, 11:34 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (10)

I'm taking 3 exams in an effort to boost my GPA before I graduate. I started with Principles of Supervision. First off, let me start by saying that I have had some really weird experiences taking exams.

I was in the middle of Adulthood and Aging several weeks ago at Pearson when I heard the sound of liquid hitting a solid surface. Imagine running with a full glass of water and hearing the water hit the ground. That is what it sounded like. I know that drinks are not allowed so I was puzzled for a moment. 5 seconds later I hear the proctor rushing in to inform the dude next to me to just get up and leave. The guy vomited all over his keyboard:eek:

The next thing I hear is the sound of spray bottles as the proctor tried to clean up the mess. This is all going on right next to me. I don't think that I answered a single question for 20 minutes. I seriously read the same question about 30 times and it would not register because I was so distracted. I ended up with an A anyway and luckily I can't smell very well!:p

This leads me to today's circus. I'm about 55 questions in to my 86 question Principles of Supervision exam when my computer freezes up with 59 minutes to go. I inform the proctor and he comes out to reboot it. Two questions later it happens again. He then moves me to a new computer. Two questions later it happens again. For the next 50 minutes he tries to get in touch with Dantes technical support, while rebooting my computer after every answered question. Did I mention that the time continued to tick as the computer jammed up? Thinking that I was going to fail this "GPA Booster" had me heated. Time expired with at least 10-15 questions unanswered.

I proceeded to fill out the comments at the end of the exam to let them know what happened and ask what they were going to do about it. Meanwhile the proctor looks nervous like I'm about to throw the monitor against the wall. Come to find out I scored a 62 anyway! All I have to say is that I must have got just about every question that I answered correct, making this by far the easiest exam of them all. In fact, I would say that this exam could be easier than the INL open book finalhilarious

Serioulsy, if you need an easy exam to boost the GPA look no further then this gimmeCool

I heard that Empire College can try to pull your degree out for more than two years, I wonder if anyone has any experience with them and how long the degree usually takes.

Thanks

  Question about several tests
Posted by: studyhard - 06-12-2007, 12:55 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

As a history major, I have to take the following DSSTs:

Intro to the Modern Middle East
Western Europe since 1945
The Civil War and Reconstruction
A History of the Vietnam War
Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union

I'm trying to map out which courses to do when, as I'm also still working on my core and some electives. For those of you who have taken any/all of these tests, can you advise me as to which would are the easiest and which are the hardest, so I know better how much time to plan for each one?

I'm not worried about the Civil War and Reconstruction--I'm a Civil War reenactor and do some work at a Civil War museum, so mostly I'll just have to do some brushing up. But I'm not really sure about the others.

Has anyone taken Eng. Comp w/o Essay?
Posted by: ceekay84 - 06-11-2007, 10:16 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

I see people taking the English Composition with Essay here... Are there any that have taken it without the Essay portion? How are the multiple choice questions on the Eng. Comp w/o the Essay? Can I still use IC to study for the English Comp. w/o the essay?
