CLEP College Math vs. CLEP College Algebra
Posted by: traffic - 05-03-2007, 01:11 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (7)

Which one is easier?

I searched the forum and people have different opinions, but seem that since Math is worth 6cr. it would be more complex than Algebra for 3cr.? Is DSST Algebra (or any other test) easier than either of the CLEPs?

I only need 3 credits to satisfy Math+Quantative Requirements in Excelsior.

Thank you!

  Excelsior, double major
Posted by: blueyzz28 - 05-03-2007, 11:27 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

I was hoping someone could answer a question for me because I know there are a few individuals pursuing a double degree's in business and psychology from Excelsior. If I wish to double major do I have to earn 30 new credits in psychology? I have already completed Intro. Psych., Human Growth, Educational Psych., and Organizational Behavior. These credits are Arts & Sciences credits in my business program but all four can be used in a psychology program as well.

As I mentioned in a previous thread I found out that I have the option of taking two tests instead of one this coming Tuesday. I took two this morning and plan on foucusing on two more over the weekend. I will definitely be taking ECE-Org Behavior but would like some input on the other...

Ethics-Theory and Practice
Psychology of Adulthood and Aging
Foundations of Gerontology
American Dream
Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union (Have all the study material Books/Vid/Audio tapes)

Any input is greatly welcome.

Thanks!

  Personal Trainer Cert- ACE approved!
Posted by: april004 - 05-03-2007, 12:27 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

I've always been interested in fitness and my coworkers, friends are always asking me to work out with them and/or asking me about my training regimen.

I've always had it in the back of my mind to go ahead and get my personal trainer certification someday.

But first things first- I want to get my Bachelor's.

Well found out I can knock out two things with one stone! I won't have to put either on the back burner. I can pursue getting my personal trainer cert while @ the same time get college credits to apply towards my degree!

There's alot of places one can get Personal training certification, the field doesn't seem to be very regulated at all. I am sure some of the personal training certification is pure junk while some may be legit. It's just hard to wade through it all. But when I found out Ace approved these courses for college Credit- I knew I found the course for me.

National Council on Strength and Fitness: NCSF Personal Trainer College Credit

Here is what the advisor from Excelsior wrote!
According to ACE, credit would be awarded for the following courses and exam from the National Council on Strength & Fitness: "Nutrition Weight Management Course & Exam" 1 Upper Level Applied Professional credit, "Fitness Education Prep Course" 2 Upper Level Applied Professional credits and "Personal Trainer Certification Prep Course" for 3 Upper Level Applied Professional credits. I hope this information is helpful but please let us know if you have additional questions. Best wishes in your academic pursuits!

ECE Labor Relations exam (latest info)
Posted by: Kiwi Lover - 05-02-2007, 04:09 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

Hi everyone,

I just took the ECE Labor Relations exam this morning and thought I would post some feedback. First of all, I took my time and studied very hard for this one because it was the last exam I needed to take for my BS-Business degree and I certainly didn’t want to fail this exam, of all exams. So I was pleasantly surprised when the exam turned out to be much easier than I expected, and I sailed through it in only one hour! I felt confident that I had the correct answers for probably 95% of the exam, so I sat there grinning to myself, thinking “Boy, this was an easy A for me”!! Well…the “EC Exam Gods” didn’t like me being so cocky and awarded me with a….........…C!!!!
I couldn’t freakin believe it!!!!

This has now happened to me on both of the EC exams I have taken. When I took ECE Ethics last September, I also sat there feeling very confident that I had done well and would score an A, so I was very surprised when I scored a B (not that a B is bad, but hey…I wanted the A, darn it!). :p I’m just curious if anyone else out there has had a similar experience with an EC exam…when you thought you’d done well and then you were surprised by your score??

Study materials: I studied for this exam using the IC flashcards (thanks Steve for creating these just in time), and I read the recommended textbook “The Labor Relations Process” (8th ed.) by Holley and Jennings and prepared my own set of notes by following the exam content outline. I would be happy to share these notes with anyone who needs them; just send me a PM. One important note: Excelsior changes the content of this exam on October 1st every year, so if you’re planning on taking this exam after that, you may need additional information or resources for your version of the exam.

Misc. info: There are 130 questions and I found all of them completely straightforward (no trick questions).

Things to make sure to study and know about (based on my version of the exam):

  TECEPs

I'm wondering if those who have taken TECEPs find them way more difficult than CLEPs/DANTES or if they're relatively the same. Have you found that they take a lot more preparation? Are they a lot more detailed? Anything you might know about these tests I'd appreciate. I'll be taking three TECEPs soon--History of Film, Intro to News Reporting, and Public Relations Thought and Practice.

i need to pass the humanities CLEP and was wondering if anyone has used the "i study smart" publications along with instantcert to help study for any CLEP test? if so, was it necessary, or did i just wast my time and money on something that doesn't help at all? any feedback will be helpfull.
