A former member of InstantCert started this website with user reviews of different CLEP resources. He's trying to make a big, useful testing-related resource, so please consider heading over and posting your feedback--the more specific the better!

  +Just Sat Social Psychology...LAST ONE!!!!
Posted by: Basket Weaver - 05-02-2007, 04:34 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (9)

Hello All,
I just sat my last test, ECE's UL Social Psychology, and I think I smoked it. Steve, the cards are SPOT ON! I took my sweet time with this one and basically had all 400 questions memorized. I supplemented them with the following link as well: http://wps.prenhall.com/hss_aronson_socpsych_5 This is the textbook Excelsior wrote the test on. It had PP slideshows, pretests, chapter reviews, matching quizes, and finally...chapter tests for all 16 chapters. I did these over and over till I had the answers memorized. I downloaded the EC Guide for the test and took the 25 question practice test as well. I put alot more effort into this than I usually did because it was my last one and I didn't want to fail and have to take DSST's Civil War test (gag).

I now have to wait about 10 days to get the results from EC, but I am very sure I passed it. The test was 130 questions long, very short compared to the other ECE Psych 160 question tests I've taken. It took me 1 1/2 hours to complete using the old fashioned pencil method. About 70% of the time I knew the answer after halfway reading the question. I found it weird to feel confident on passing for a change... Maybe that's why people study hard....Rolleyes

I would recommend taking this one until after you've taken Research Methods in Psychology as about 15-20% of it was on the experiment design. The cards didn't cover this as well as they could of, but I was prepared because I had taken RM in Psych.

More to come after the results come in. Now I have the daunting task of persuading the education office to help pay some of these costly graduation fees Excelsior has....... Any of the military folks here have any luck with that? Thanks, Lee

  Changing Directions
Posted by: Matymus - 05-01-2007, 10:41 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

Well...after alot of prayer & thought, I've decided to pursue EC's B.S. in General Business instead of TESC's General Mgmt degree. After reading through numerous posts regarding the 2 different schools & such, I think I decided that EC is cheaper, and it sounds to me like, for the most part, you know what you're getting with EC & their assistance, etc., whereas with TESC, it seems as though one may not know from one week to the next as to whether they're getting correct information, timely responses, truly caring administrators that are there to assist the student. Anyway, if anybody would like to reassure me that I'm probably going in a better direction, I'd love to hear it. If people think that my assessment is incorrect, by all means...please let me know...seriously. Any input is welcome.

Thanks,
Matt

  DSST Practice Exam Question
Posted by: journey - 05-01-2007, 10:32 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

I went to the getcollegecredit.com site and ordered the practice test for Environment and Humanity. The score report listed the questions that I got incorrect but the rationale did not give me the correct answer in order for me to study with. For those that have taken these tests, am i missing something? At least the Peterson's tests lets you know the ones you got wrong and proceeds to give the correct answer with explaination. For example: the question would be "An oligotrophic lake is one that....., My response was: "is rich in nutrients". The rationale just stated "By definition. All but correct answer refer in some manner to eutrophied lakes". Well, since we no longer have access to all of the other answers, the rationale really doesn't mean much. I hope i've explained this and maybe someone out there can tell me how they used this tool to study.

Signed,
Desparate Journey

  Help for FEMA courses
Posted by: vbmith - 05-01-2007, 03:59 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

Most of us taking fema courses are trying to take full advantage of this opportunity. And while taking IS-513, IS-600, IS-631, IS-632 I noticed that there is no material online and no guarantee you will get it by snail mail either (for course 631&2).

My suggestion:

If you have the materials I will scan them as searchable pdf and make them available for the public

Please let me know if you have the materials for these or other courses that have the materials removed.

  Need quick input...

Hey guys,

I am a Reservist that is doing my duty atm and I just found out that I can take two exams per day instead of 1. The testing center on base here only allows testing on Tuesday and Thursday morning so I basically have TWO extra tests that I can take while I am here. I'm looking for two tests with very little prep time needed. I am already planning on taking Organizational Behavior (Using Instacert and DSST Study guide) and World Population (Using Population by Weeks as well as the CIA world factbook). I basically have tonight and tomorrow to cram for the Thursday morning test and the rest of this week and Monday to cram for the other. I have thought about DSST-Management Info Systems and Possibly Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union- I have the DSST Study guide for both as well as the complete book on Rise and Fall of the SU. I am looking for the most simple tests to prep for and pass.

Thanks!

  Prin. of Marketing
Posted by: PCCLEP - 05-01-2007, 01:34 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

I'm new to InstantCert and to this forum. I lucked into finding this site about a month ago. I just finished my third CLEP for April yesterday. I passed Accounting and Government earlier in the month.

I took Marketing yesterday. I passed with a 69. I used IC for the most part. I'm still not quite sold on IC. The "fill in the blank" part is still bothersome. I've used the peterson practice exams for Government & Accounting. I think I like them better.

One thing I am sold on is this Forum. It has been a great resource, not only for the Exams, but also with ideas about colleges, courses, and cost effective ways to earn credits.

I want to thank everyone for all the threads.

Here's a couple of things from the Marketing Exam yesterday.

----------------
Directing Marketing (there must have been 10 questions)

Internet Marketing (3-5 questions)

markup... (if you markup 50% on the cost, what is the markup based on sell price? )

4 P's

Product life cycle
