My rant for today......
Posted by: iwannapass - 03-02-2007, 07:11 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (4)

So I go to take my test today...... and the lady decides she wants to go to lunch. She forgot my appt was at 11:15, NOT 11:00. I live in Pensacola so besides the base which only gives Dantes exams and UWF which is on the other side of town, my only option is to deal with PJC testing center and their restricted hours. She always has me waiting and i have no other choice but to go to them. I hate this crap. So now I have to continue through the weekend until next Tuesday still studying and waiting to take this test (Intro to Ed Psych) until I can get to take my exam. So hope everyone had a better friday than me........

Just took Dantes Fundamentals of Supervision
Posted by: Casey1300 - 03-02-2007, 05:19 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

This exam was pretty straightforward. I took fundamentals of consuling the week before and managment the week before that. So I think I was well versed for this test. I just used instacert for it. I think I did well, at least good enough for a pass.

Know the difference between line/staff managers
centralized/decentralized managment
unity managment
matrix organization
Know who Fredrick douglass is
Know the difference between planning, organizing, controlling.

There were MANY questions that could be answered just by using common sense and if you had a job which involved a supervisor or have been a supervisor before. Virtually any job has this type of organization.

I also used the dantes pdf file that can be found here http://www.petersons.com/pdf/free/DSST.pdf

  A Little Of Everything
Posted by: scw - 03-02-2007, 12:55 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Hello everyone,
After a year and a half of using this site I finally figured out how to post to the forum. Must be the higher education kicking in. Wink I thought I would post some comments on the last few tests I've taken and give a brief history of my process on the off chance it will encourage someone.

I just completed research methods in psychology- "A", first 130 questions was like reading the study material. The last 30 was a 50/50 chance at best, I needed more time with statistics. Received an "A" on Adulthood and Aging- most of the questions came from the Gerontology study material, and I got a "C" in Gerontology.

Other Excelsior tests:

Abnormal Psychology-C
Organizational Behavior-C
Human resource mgmt-C (thought I did better:mad: -study hard!)

NOTE: The largest percent of questions I got correct on an excelsior exam was 70.6% on Adulthood and Aging, my "C"s are a byproduct of impatience.

CLEP:

Social Science and History (54)
Intro to sociology (55)
Principles of Microeconomics (52)
Analyzing and Interpreting Literature (55) (failed first time, passed second) no studying
Info systems and computer applications (55)

DANTES:

General Anthropology-(51) B (picked up additional books from the library)
Civil War and reconstruction-(54) B (Got some video tapes from the library and a map with battles to help place events)

Here's to your health- (54) A
Environment and Humanity (55) A
Ethics in America-(58) A
Drug and Alcohol Abuse-(62) A

After completing some online courses with Excelsior-ENG-101, BUS statistics, managerial accounting and info literacy and throwing in 30 ish credits for military experience, I am now a Biology test away from a BS- liberal arts (failed Biology the first time by 1 point, did not study)

As you can see I did not tear up the tests like some people, but going from nothing to a BS in 14 months with a B average is not bad considering I graduated high school in 1985 with a 2. GPA.

I only used instant cert for study material, except for the two subjects I listed. Cool

Study Method: I went through the study material writing down anything I did not think I could remember on a 3X5 card (stack of cards would be 1/2 - 1 1/2 in thick, depending on topic). Over a period of 2 or 3 days I would read my notes as time allotted. The whole process took about 1 week (10-12 hours) per topic.

Congratulations to the people that have made it and good luck to those still progressing.

Steven, Thanks for instantcert! It's been nice doing business with you. The forum was very helpful.

Ron

  Passed Principles of Management
Posted by: NYTtech - 03-02-2007, 09:46 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

Just wanted to let everyone know that I passed Principles of Management with a 61 yesterday. I went through the IC stuff about a month ago a couple of times. I kind of let it fall the wayside and decided on Tuesday I was going to take it on Wedneday. I went through the IC stuff one more time and took one of the Petersons tests. The questions to me seemed like they were worded funny. Definitly know what person is responsibility for which theory. Other than that I found alot of it was commons sense and really focusing on the words in the question helps to narrow answer selections.

Test Advice -- Need 10 Easy Credits!
Posted by: sydonia1972 - 03-01-2007, 09:38 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (7)

Hello,

I need advice on 4 DSST tests. I am looking for 4 easy tests that require minimal prep/study time, so I can graduate this May? I originally needed 16, however, I just passed Drug & Alcohol Abuse and Here's to Your Health. Thank goodness Regis University switched to CBT in October 2006.

Anyway, I have the list narrowed down to
Criminal Justice
Principles of Finance
Principles of Supervision
Intro to Business
Organizational Behavior
Management Information Systems
Introduction to Law Enforcement
Fundamentals of Counseling
Human Resource Management
Money and Banking
Also, does anyone have advice on what order to take them in? It looks like some of the information may be overlapping, and I don't want to waste anytime.

Thanks in advance for your input!
