Music Double major
Posted by: lawqueen04 - 04-18-2025, 08:34 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (2)

Hello!

I have been trying to finish my bachelor's for many years and now have decided that UMPI will be my final stop. I have 65 traditional college credits, 54 Sophia credits and the free TEEX credits. As I was drawing up my plans, I originally wanted to major in Psychology-then was going to change to BLS minor in Psychology because it would be quickest but I really want a BA not BLS. I then switched to History. When looking at minors I thought maybe I could pick up the Project Management certificate as my minor (instead of psychology). While I was completing courses at Sophia, I actually took Accounting, Project Management and Intro to Business because I had time and they didn't have any written assignments. Soooooo, after looking at both majors I believe I am interested in double majoring in History and Business Administration -Project Management. Is this possible to complete?

I would have to sign up for:
Study.com- to complete Vietnam War, UL History Elective (American Civil War), UL History Elective (Holocaust and WWII), Managerial Accounting and Change Management.
Clep- Western Civilization I, Western Civilization II, Information Systems
Saylor- Management Information Systems
Coursera(I have free membership through my state) Project Management cert, Data Analytics cert and IBM Data Analysis cert

For the History Major, I believe I would only need 5 classes from UMPI. And for the Business Administration I would need 7 classes (I want to complete the 3 courses that would transfer to the MAOL anyway so that would mean the second major is only 4 classes extra beyond the MAOL classes).
My total classes at UMPI I would need to complete are-
1 UL US History
2 UL Non Western
3 UL Pre Modern
4 UL History Elective
5 UL History Elective
6 BUS 200
7 BUS 325
8 BUS 353*
9 BUS 440*
10 BUS 469*
11 BUS 343
12 BUS 401

Completing my degree is to finish what I started 20 years ago- but if I only technically will need 2 classes beyond the 10 required and I can have 2 majors, it seems like the best use of my learning. I also have the time to spend to complete the extra Coursera certs and classes prior to UMPI- I am hoping to graduate in 2026 and I will get a raise next year- deadline is July 2026.

Does that seem likely to work?
Thank you!  Heart

Has anyone looked into this program? $10,000 for the 60 credit DBA. https://acacia.edu/doctor-of-business-administration/
Their MBA is only $5,000
Have we created a forum with the cheapest nationally and regionally accredited doctorates?

  Degree Plan Help Please
Posted by: Sevenfold8558 - 04-17-2025, 11:59 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (5)

Your Location: Pennsylvania, United States
Your Age: 27
What kind of degree do you want?: Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts (Liberal Studies), General Studies, or Political Science
Current Regional Accredited Credits: 61 credits (Associate of Arts in English) from Bucks County Community College
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: 43 credits (all from Sophia) though there are some credits that are the same courses from my CC. So it's really 37 credits, but I'll list all the classes that I've done so far:

  • Art History II
  • College Readiness
  • Environmental Science
  • Human Biology Lab
  • Introduction to Business
  • Introduction to Ethics
  • Introduction to Information Technology (repeat)
  • Introduction to Nutrition
  • Lifespan Developent
  • Project Management
  • Spanish II (I took French I and Spanish I at CC for the 6 credit foreign language requirement whatever reason)
  • U.S Government
  • US History I
  • US History II (likely repeat)
  • Visual Communications
Any certifications or military experience?: No
Budget: No real budget if it means getting the degree done as fast as possible.
Commitments: Part-time job, possible move to full-time job, but nothing set in stone.
Dedicated time to study: A decent amount of time, I work only 3 days a week, every other day I have free time, but I'd rather not study as much as actually getting the work needed to get the courses completed. (28 hours a week, but ideally, only a fraction would go towards studying)
Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal (copied from template). Maximum time, Spring 2026, but would like to get the degree finished by the end of 2025.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: None.

I'm not sure whether I prefer test-out or competency based because it's been a while since I've taken a legit test without it being open book. I do get overwhelmed/stressed somewhat easily, so I'd rather do classes one or two at a time. My hope is to get to a university with 114 credits and take the final 2 classes there, or 90 credits that can be done in two sessions (in exchange for the longer time, the classes are ideally not as intensive).

Help figuring out what classes that need to be done via Sophia, Study.com, or other means to get to 114 credits or knocking out upper-level classes for the 90 credits plan would be appreciated. Smile

  Degree Plan, help? I
Posted by: infradata.it@gmail.com - 04-16-2025, 09:05 PM - Forum: General "Big 3", B&M colleges, and other colleges - Replies (159)

This is my 2nd major question here, this one for myself.

Any advice would be great

Personal Intro:

I delayed, too long, as I started working when a degree was not “as important” in IT, as ability was (less common then).

Your Location:
·        Ontario, Canada

Your Age:
·        43

What kind of degree do you want?:
A BS Information Technology is ideal, that’s what my career has been, but I am willing to accept the fastest and cheapest “similar” option.

Biggest concern = residency requirements (time + I have many credits already), then cost/time
AND interacting with ANY other people, at all.

Skill levels
·        Overall “high end of decent”, self judged
·        I excel in information systems/cybersecurity (weak: programming/networking, for IT).
·        I am terrible at mathematics, Algebra or “better”. “Common” math, no issues
·        My English skills are good, but I have an eccentric writing style.

Current Regional Accredited Credits:
·       None, but AUS CIS194 or Prima STU100 are accessible.
·       Canadian, but I maintain an American mailing address.

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: (I believe all of mine are ACE)
NOTE: I included certificates with ACE credit I am aware of.

·        Saylor Academy, College Success (1)
·        Saylor Academy, BUS107: Customer Service (3)
·        The Harvard/Edx CS50x Certificate (4, 1 is a lab)
·        The SeeMore Impact Labs CMS Certificate of High Performance (3, math)
·        American Dream Academy Alumni + Five Google Certificates, (54 credit value):
·        Google IT support + Google Project management + Google UX Design Professional + Google Digital Marketing and E-Commerce + Google Data Analytics, Professional Certificates
·        The IBM Cybersecurity Analyst Professional Certificate (10)
·        The AWIT Real-World Product Management Specialization (6)
·        The AWIT Real-World Cloud Product Management Specialization (6)
·        The Salesforce Sales Operations Professional Certificate (1)
·        The Meta Certified Digital Marketing Associate Certificate (1)
·        The Salesforce Sales Development Representative Professional Certificate (3)
·        The Meta Social Media Marketing Professional Certificate (2)
·        The ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity certificate (2)
·        The TEEX Cybersecurity courses Cbyer101, 201, 301 & accompanying courses (25)
·        The OAC (Ontario Academic Credit) Politics course (100 series Intro to Politics) (3)

Total = 124 credits
Upper level of above: 3 + 3 + 2 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 17 UL, the rest are LL

Any certifications or military experience:
·        CIPS (Canadian Information Processing Society) Information Technology Certified Professional (ITCP)
·        Google Business Intelligence Certificate
·        NHCPS CPR, AED, and First Aid Certificate (ILCOR/JCAHO accredited)
·        PMI Kickoff (Agile + Waterfall) Certificates
·        PMI PMB (Project Management Basics Certified, via GoSkills)
·        Six Sigma White, Yellow & Green Belt Certificates
·        Scrum SFC Certificate
·        ServiceNow Certified
·        Aix Safety WHMIS/OSHA Certificates
·        MTO (Ministry Transportation Ontario) Safety Certificate
·        Cisco Network Academy Transcript (full completion of ALL free, online, self-paced offerings)
·        Management & Strategy, Institute Leadership Certified
·        Cybersecurity Awareness Certificate
·        Technical Cybersecurity Certificate
·        Cybersecurity Risk Management Certificate
·        IBM skills certified (all)
·        13 CertiProf certifications: Lifelong Learner Certificate - LLC
·        Scrum Foundation Professional Certificate - SFPC
·        Cybersecurity Awareness Professional Certification - CAPC
·        Lean Six Sigma White Belt Professional Certification – LSSWBPC
·        Business Agility Professional Certification - BAPC
·        Lean Leadership Professional Certification - LLPC
·        Design Sprint Professional Certification - DSPC
·        Business Intelligence Foundation Professional – BIFPC
·        Business Model Canvas Essentials Professional Certification BMCEPC
·        Remote Work Professional – RWPC™
·        Digital Marketing Professional Certification – DMPC
·        Prompt Engineering Foundation Professional Certification - CPEFPC
·        Generative AI for Marketing Professional Certification - GAIFMPC

Budget:
·        $4K USD …. Or $5,555 CANADIAN dollars (but the less the better, if possible)

Commitments:
·        Full Time Remote/Onsite (Hybrid) Job 40 HRS Per Week
·        Wife, but no children

Dedicated time to study:
·        3 HRS Per Day on Mon-Fri
·        8-10 HRS on Sat/Sun
·        Note: I am a fairly good “cram + exam” (IT Certs + Coursera, “taught” me this)

Timeline:
·        ASAP?

Tuition assistance/reimbursement:
·        Not concerned, overly

Advise me plz: AAA or AAS (even AGS?) for remedial student
Posted by: infradata.it@gmail.com - 04-16-2025, 04:27 PM - Forum: Associates Degrees Discussion - Replies (7)

Hello,

I haven't asked this publicly before, but I was hoping for advice.

I am helping an adult learner (co-worker/friend) that is trying to find a path to hold ANY degree, for career advancement.

They work in customer service, and wish to advance into management (but they would require at least 2yr degree)

This adult learner is not "learning disabled" (please, forgive me if this term is no longer acceptable), they had been through a testing program in high school, and were rated as a "remedial" student, but not "disabled".

This was in Canada, courses were "basic" (which was the term for "applied", in the "applied, general, advanced" system used at the time).

Their (my for them) original plan was to just "collect" 59 LL credits, do 1 RA credit (College Success/Career Planning/Basic IT/similar?) and degree out Pierpont's BOG AAS (gen studies, or business admin?) ... but they were no where near "fast enough" to beat BOG policy change.

Seeking alt, TESU... but not ideal

They struggle with course work that is at the level of:

  • TEEX Cyber101 (they were not successful in passing the 1st course, of the course set)
  • AWIT (Advancing Women Tech, 2 courses were free .. they were unable to pass either)
  • and the "See more impact labs" CMS Certificate program (they did pass, but it was a solid, daily, 2 week effort and frustrated them highly)

IMHO, they would not pass Eng Comp Modular via CLEP/Modern States (but I believe they "could" pass environmental science, via CLEP, for example).

I was wondering if it was even possible to get them into any, yes any, TESU associates degree, if they were to "payout the waiver" and only need to do a media literacy course and capstone.

The main question ... how do I best advise them (please advise me)

They have 7 LL credits, they did earn already:
  • 3 math CMS Certificate
  • 1 credit: College Success (Saylor)
  • 3 credit: BUS107: Customer Service (Saylor)

They found the Saylor courses above; "common sense" in their own words, but they have worked (for many years) in customer support.

Past this they have:
  • WHMIS/OSHA Safety Certificate
  • MSI SixSigma Greenbelt (oddly), & "Leadership Workshop", Certificates
  • Redcross First Aid (level C - top available) Certificate
I am trying to come up with a VERY light course load to get them up to 53'ish credits (all LL are fine), but I am stuck... (at about 27 additional "easy" credits)

Any advice?

  Math AS After degree suggestions
Posted by: pregrad000 - 04-16-2025, 03:45 PM - Forum: Associates Degrees Discussion - Replies (3)

Hello,

I am new here, but I have been looking into a few degree programs.

I hold a BSc in Computer Science and am close to finishing my MSc in the same area. I want to get an associate's degree in math online, mainly to get additional math courses to aid in PhD admissions. They don't need to be insane, but a few higher-level courses would be nice.

For example, I applied to the AS in Math at TESU, but I wanted to know if there are other programs with a better value and if the math courseload/cost is a big one. That would be an option if I could also do undergrad math classes for cheaper at my own pace at a low cost.

Degree: Associate in Science
Majors:

  • Mathematics
Departments:
  • Natural Sciences
Catalog:2025
Semester Hours (SH) Required:28.00
SH Applied to Degree:19.00
SH Remaining:9.00
Overall Degree GPA Needed:2.000
Overall Degree GPA Requirement Met:Y
Community College (45 cr for Assoc/90 cr for Bach Maximum):0.00
Foreign Credits (45 cr for Assoc/90 cr for Bach Maximum):15.00
ACE/NCCRS 45 cr for Assoc/90 cr for Bach Maximum):4.00

I know this is the current limiter on my profile; I have strong LoRs, grad GPA, awards, research, and internships. My undergrad GPA is lower, and I did not take many formal math classes but did learn most of the content independently for my computing courses.

Any information would be appreciated.

University of Maine Online PhD in Higher Education
Posted by: durain - 04-16-2025, 10:03 AM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - No Replies

University of Maine has a fully Online PhD in Higher Education.
From the website : Admission requires a master’s for which 45 to 60 credits may be applied to the doctoral degree upon approval by program faculty. The master’s need not be in the education field.

Tuition should be about USD570 per credit hour. Not exactly low cost.

Help needed! Leave my EU plan or not?
Posted by: H31d1 - 04-16-2025, 08:06 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (8)

Hello everyone,

I just learned about EU's change and that you have to do 15 credits with them now instead of 7! What am I to do now?

I have attached our original plan. Please have a look!

Summary:
My daughter has 74 credits already and is/was aiming for an online Bachelor of Science of Liberal Arts at EU. The plan is to transfer in as many credits as possible.

Goal: finish before summer 2026
Cost: as cost efficient as possible.
Location: the Netherlands

Can someone explain if it makes sense to still go with EU? What would be the cost? Will TESU be cheaper/faster?
Someone has a link to a degree plan for Tesu?

With these credits, would UMPI or UotP also be a cheap option?

Link where I can find the information are also welcome. I'm having a hard time finding the specific info on their websites!

Thank you so much, I'm really confused now!
