Hi everyone -

I'm brand new to InstaCert and am enjoying it so far. Someone hooked me up with the site so I signed up. Anyway I'm about to dive into DANTES' Drug and Alcohol Abuse to knock out some upper level requirements. Just wondering if anyone has any information on it or any useful pointers or maybe anything I should look out for. I would appreciate it. Take it easy.

Thanks

My coming back from vacation horror story...
Posted by: twitterflix - 09-04-2007, 09:24 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (6)

Well anyways, i went away on a weekend trip. For labor day and everything. Well yesterday i came home (a four hour trip) driving across newyork. I get out of my car to hear my old, and quite large dog barking weird, over by his dog house. My mom suggested he might need water so i walked over to him. As i got closer he got up and started coming up to me. I bend down to pet him and as i do, i see he's not walking right. I looked at his leg a little closer and flipped out. There was a LIVE SKUNK biting his leg and holding on to it. nevertheless i screamed and ran back to my dad. My dad went out with a rake and had to swat the thing 5 times before it got off my dogs leg. Then proceeded to yell at my brother to get the 20 gauge shotgun out of the gun closet with some shells. For you anti-hunters out there my dad did not get the skunk it still lives in my back yard somewhere. So i now have a skunk smelling dog and yard. My dog is fine, he didnt get rabies or anything from it which is a good thing. hilarious what the world coming too when skunks attack dogs and get away with it. jeepers....Big Grin Big Grin

  E-Army learning
Posted by: jeremy1999 - 09-04-2007, 04:35 AM - Forum: Military Discussion - Replies (8)

Since there are a lot of fellow military members on this site, I was wondering if maybe some of you could help me with this question I have. The Army e-learning site has 28 classes that have been approved for ace college credit and was wondering if any of you have done them They are free and through a company called skill soft. Anyway, when you finish the class they e-mail your certificate to your atars and ako accounts so you can give to your school for credit. There are a lot of computer classes and programs probably to get you up to speed for a mcse or mcsa certification but there are also some business classes as well. There is a accounting class and a business finance class. I was wondering if i could do this accounting and finance class for credit through hawaii pacific uniersity (my school). Or I should say how can I find out if it would transfer for credit. As army classes and correspondence classes are, they are very easy and would be an excellent way to bang out an accounting and finance class in just a couple days. If anyone has any advice, any would be appreciated. Thanks
Jeremy

  Question on InstantCert
Posted by: LexiMommy - 09-03-2007, 05:31 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (7)

I need 2 electives and a Science test to finish my BSBA at UOP.

Any suggestions for tests using IC only? I'm also looking for some easy tests if anyone has any suggestions, I'm hoping to finish all three by the end of the month? Does that seem realistic?

I failed Here's to Your Health!! I didn't think I had to study, I was told it was common sense but I guess not for me.. So I wont be retaking that one?

Need help please..

How do I Get another Evaluation (requires more credits) - Degree Change
Posted by: tvelasquez - 09-03-2007, 03:12 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

I received my unofficial evaluation today (yes on Labor Day) that’s the good news; however I found that many of my credits were not applied. I was originally shooting for a Technology degree BIX, but with the number of remaining credits left to take (97) I need to look for a new degree plan that’s faster or one that will use most of my credits. I submitted to EC over 60 credits and look as if only 23 credits were applied. It looks as thought a Liberal Arts may be a quicker route. So my question is how do I get another Evaluation for Liberal Arts or what would be a quicker solution for a degree plan? (I realize it’s difficult not knowing what credits I currently have, which credits expired under the Business plan)

Here is my unofficial evaluation from EC

Statistics - A Whole New Animal
Posted by: barcotta - 09-02-2007, 05:46 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (19)

After maintaining a fairly brisk testing pace since February, I slowed to a crawl in June. Actually, I stopped. I studied off and on for Statistics and was reading my American Government Cliff Notes on occassion and was hoping that through my busy summer I would at least be able to take those two exams before starting Accounting II at the local community college. Well, let me tell you, Statistics is a whole new animal compared to the various Psych, Computer and Management/Marketing exams.

I know several on the site have been looking at this exam in recent months. Steelers was quite discouraged after attempting the paper version and appears to have disappeared altogether. Jeremy gave it a go and missed it by two points. I think Johann is gearing up for it as well.

I decided that I would use only InstantCert and any other free resources I could find to prepare. That has taken some extra time. Had I to do this one over again, I think I would've gotten a book. This is one test where not knowing the types of questions well is concerning me. There is some great feedback in the feedback section and I'm using all of it, but this is no fun.

I've spent most of today studying and restudying. I'm hopeful that the first three sections from the fact sheet (Descriptive Statistics, Correlation and Regression and Probability) really do make up 70-75% of the exam. If so, and I can get this probability thing down in the next three days, I think I have a chance. I looked at chi square and decided that I won't spend too much time there!

I told the testing center that I'm bringing a calculator that conforms with the DSST standards so I'm hoping I don't get a hard time from them. Other than that, I'm just taking a break from studying and I'm now going to dive back into Probability to see if it starts clicking. The combination of no book, few practice tests and foreign subject matter makes this a lot different than my previous experiences. Even though I only used a book on a few other tests--none of them covered learning and applying mathematical processes. Traditional learning where you absorb a concept and practice on problems would've been real good for this!

Oddly enough, I feel like I know more about Statistics now than I did about many of the other tests I took. I'm just not sure I can translate my knowledge to answer questions with which I'm unfamiliar and may approach the material from different perspectives. I'm also not crazy about the idea that I expect this test to be a minefield of ALMOST correct answers--so if I know everything except, for example, if the answer should be positive or negative, or if, when determining percentiles, I get confused about where I should add or subtract a one--I'm sure all those answers will be there too!

I test this coming Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. I'm hopeful that those who have fallen before me have sufficiently beaten down the curve for me to pass.
