  Business Law 2 (?)
Posted by: mjno - 07-23-2007, 07:45 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

Hello everyone,

I plan on taking DSST Business Law 2 soon and am trying to find additional info on this exam. I have seen a couple of threads on this test and Barron's Business Law is recommended, but based on the dsst fact sheet I can only find half of the info I would need. Is there anything else I can use for this test (have already done clep bus law test).

Cannot find much on this test, please help!

P.S.
Would the DSST practice tests help or like many of the other ones would it be a waste of time.

Thanks,
Mike

Principles of Marketing/Prin. of Management Similarities?
Posted by: mudrigg - 07-23-2007, 07:22 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

I took the principles of marketing clep and was able to get a 72. I was curious if anyone has also taken the prin. of management clep and if so, were there any similarities on the test? Or did you happen to find one harder than the other? I used REA book/CD on the marketing as well as the IC study area. I am going to be doing the same for POM. But I noticed that the REA book for management is about 2x as thick as the marketing one. Anyone with experience on both tests out there? Your opinion would be very valuable.

Thanks,

Mudrigg.

  College Mathematics
Posted by: studyhard - 07-23-2007, 06:05 PM - Forum: What does this Flashcard mean or Do this math problem for me - Replies (7)

Aggh, I'm so fuzzy on this. This is a problem from the CLEP practice test. I'm putting parenthesis around things that are exponents, since there's no way to denote them:

If 8(x) = 15 and 8(y) = 25, then 8(2x +y) = ??????

I can't for the life of me remember how to work this problem and digging through my old math books shed no light. Any ideas?

  W00T call me Mr. PMP
Posted by: ridin8ude - 07-23-2007, 06:02 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

This is a bit outside the CLEP/DSST realm, but I passed my PMI PMP certification today. It's a monster test, and supposedly quite difficult.

So now I am officially recognized as a practicing Project Management Professional + I get 3 upper level credits towards my BGB at Excelsior + I can get credit for 3 courses if I apply to Aspen's MBA in PM.

SWEET!

Info about the test:
200 questions - 4 hours to complete - and it's certainly a level above DSST/CLEP in difficulty
You must be able to demonstrate actual PM experience to be eligible to sit for the exams, the requirements are quite stringent
61% is the pass threshold, but it is only pass/fail - I scored a 74% and finished in 2 hours, but it still gave me a headache... (and I do real life PM!)

If anyone is interested in pursuing this, I can give alot of feedback Smile
My employer put me through a 4k USD exam cram course last week provided by Cheetah, it definitely works!

  Upper level Accounting credits
Posted by: chokeme - 07-23-2007, 05:25 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Hi all!

I searched but did not find a thread on UPPER LEVEL ACCOUNTING (particularly as it applies to Excelsior College).

I satisfied my lower level in communitiy college (Principles of Accounting I & II). This leaves me with a lot of upper level stuff such as:

  • Intermediate Accounting I
  • Intermediate Accounting II
  • Cost Accounting
  • Taxation (US Tax)
  • Electives

It's very difficult for me to take in-person classes, and I am interested in saving money (aren't we all!). Learning the material is not an issue, I already know it; does anyone have any ideas on how to satisfy these requirements? Equivalency exam preferred, though I am open to online courses is the price is right.

Thank you and good luck to all!!!

  Aspen University
Posted by: BGN - 07-22-2007, 04:53 PM - Forum: Off Topic - No Replies

Aspen University is offering $1500.00 in tuition assistance between now and August 15th. This is if you pay your tuition in full. This brings the cost of a degree to $3000.00 not counting books and materials. Please note they are nationally accredited, not regionally.

I've applied to their MBA program. Hope this info may be of assistance to others on the board.

Sorry I've been away so long....

Me and my husband have been going through a lot since he has been away. I realized I was a military wife. Very sad but true. Besides the fact that accounting burned me out, I have been trying to relax and that's not something I know how to do. I also started reading novels. Forgot what that felt like and how much I missed it. I have read like 5 books in the last three weeks. Either way, I am gearing up to hit the books again. Congratulations to everyone who hasn't stopped moving. Keep up the good work!!

Big Three and Minimum Age for Admission
Posted by: bean - 07-21-2007, 05:56 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (7)

Has anyone with a large number of CLEP/DANTES credits been refused admission into any of the big three because you were too young? Are any of the three easier to work with if you are younger than traditional age?

Thanks,
Mark

  Here's to Your Health
Posted by: luv - 07-21-2007, 03:51 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (12)

Hi All, just took the Here's to Your Health test. I read my college network notes & went over the IC info once and passed with 66 in about 35 minutes. As others have said this is a lot of common sense, with a few terms and data you should understand.

The following is what I remember the questions asking:

General Health - Heath wellness is the primary responsibility of the individual. Understand fitness, resting heart rate, how should a new college student whose gained 20 pounds in a semester progress to fitness. Know the definition of isometric, restictive & isokinetic exercises. 1 lb = approx 3500 cal. Which nutriet has more cal per gram: protein, fat or carbs?

Know about genetic theory of programmed aging, free radical theory & wear and tear theory. Know the stages of death and dying i.e. denial, anger, bargaining, depression etc., Know about social death and secularization of the aging.

Know about hospice care, that lung cancer is the leading cause of death by a cancer & most preventable. Know about breast cancer, and that skin cancer is a melanoma. Know the difference between benign & malignant.

Alcoholism: Know about binge drinking, what percentage of death is caused by drunk driving. What is tolerance? What are the signs & symptoms of fetal alcohol syndrome?

Smoking: know about nicotine, carbon monoxide and its ill effects.

What are psychoactive drugs, hallucinogens & their effect? Which drugs can you get over the counter i.e. sedative, pain medicine, antifungals. Know that Opiates are codeine, heroine, opium, methodone & that mescaline is a hallucinogen.

Know about congestive heart failure, stroke, hypertension, diabetes I (insulin dependant and usually is dx before age thirty). Diabetes type II (adult onset) not always insulin dependant. What is a somewhat hypertensive bp? 140/90. Know what an angioplasty does.

Infections: know about memory & suppressor T cells, immunizations, the safest sex (abstinence). Know what a pathogen is. Know the different stages of infections, i.e. infection, incubation, symptoms etc. The testes produce sperm. Male sexual dysfunction i.e. impotence, pre & retarded ejaculation. Know estrogen & progesterone are female hormones, know that Human chorionic gonatotrophin (HCG) levels detected are a way to confirm pregnancy.

STDs: which are bacterial or viral. Know the treatment for Syphilis & Gonorrhea.

Know the leading cause of accidental death in the home. Know about HMOs & medicare.

There was a question about waste management. A question about what is important in having a good relationship.

There's more, but I just went blank. Hope this helps though, Luv.
